I chose my Sarah Houston design wedding dress and waking up the morning after I had to pinch myself; had it all been a dream?

I recently traveled into Toronto in search for my perfect wedding dress and couldn’t help feeling a little defeated until crossing Hazleton Ave, Yorkville, when I spotted Sarah Houston’s bridal boutique.

I was thrilled to be greeted at the door by Sarah, the designer herself, and the excitement did not stop there. The dress selection on the first floor level was bridal heaven, each dress unique in its own way and designed with a purpose, and each having its own fascinating “story”. I really enjoyed listening to Sarah’s personal account of the inspiration behind each intricate design.

I selected several designs that I wanted to try on and was ushered up to the second level. It is here where Sarah’s boutique offers an experience that only dreams and fairytales are made of; the ambience is unique and the feeling positively indescribable. Sarah’s website provides an insight but one must absorb the whole experience to fully appreciate it. The focal point is a runway the likes of which is usually found in couture fashion salons, and simple as that is, the effect is quite remarkable.

Sarah and her team were not only professional throughout, they were beyond personable and went out of their way to ensure that I had the most incredible experience imaginable.

My words cannot possibly do justice to the amount of detail in each dress; making the decision of choosing my dress one of the most difficult of my life, yet it is the sort of pleasant dilemma all brides should experience. I had multiple ‘this is the one!’ moments, which I had not experienced anywhere else.

Having never worked with a designer before, I quickly discovered the benefits. I felt extremely privileged when Sarah offered suggestions on how she could tailor each dress to create my dream dress. Details such as re-working the neckline, using a different type of silk that would better suit my skin tone, or perhaps as subtle as changing beading from pearls to crystals or vice versa, to more drastic measures such as taking the top of one dress and matching it with the “skirt” of another dress; the possibilities seemed endless.

Sarah welcomed my decision to return the next week with my family entourage to make the final decision. So, after a week of eagerly anticipating returning to Sarah’s salon, I was again walking the runway. Sarah and her associates worked tirelessly with my family and I as I tried on virtually (what seemed) every dress in the store until finally choosing my dream dress (I was having so much fun that I ended up spending approximately six hours in total at the boutique spread over two visits).

Sarah and her team gave me helpful feedback and honest opinions, but most importantly they encouraged me to follow my heart with my decision.

Sarah has made my wildest dreams come true. My dress is not only beautiful, but in my mind it will be the most gorgeous, “jaw-dropping”, and elegant gown anyone has ever seen, just like I had always imagined since being a little girl.

Needless to say, Sarah Houston and her team far exceeded my expectations and provided me with an experience that I will never forget for the rest of my life.

The only down side is I have to wait to see my dress again. On the positive side, I have no doubt that when I do, Sarah will make sure I have another experience that I won’t want to trade for the world.

I will feel honoured to walk down the aisle in a Sarah Houston dress, because she is simply the best!
